Default Experience with Refurb and Scratch and Dent

I've never purchased a refurb or scratch and dent item from Dell.

I'm interested in the experience others have had with items in that category...pariticularly the "scatch and dent" category...what was the condition of the unit?

What advice would you offer to someone considering a scratch and dent item?

I have purchsed four of them now.. I could not tell a difference from new. I couldn't find even a single scratch on any of them.

They are definately worth the gamble, especially if you can live with the system not being perfect in case you don't have as good luck as I have

I've purchased quite a few scratch & dent and refurb systems and couldn't find any difference from those listed as "previously ordered new" or from ordering new via Home or Small Business. The one exception being a S&D model that was missing the little badge around the power button saying the model number, but I called Dell and they sent me one at no cost.

If it's a decent price I'd say go for it. The system can always be returned if it doesn't meet your expectations.

it depends on our luck when it comes to scratch and dent units. I bought one Latitude for my wife and it has a big scratch on the cover. :baffled:
other than that i have nothing to complain. no dead pixels and runs very smooth (it beats my xps 400 in streaming video!)...um i remember it failed to dump the mem once, but most likely it was a win xp bug.
I think for desktop (if u put it under the table) ,a scratch & dent can be a really good deal.

I received my first scratch & dent system that was actually scratched (but not dented). This was definitely a used computer as the scratches were around the front USB ports on a Dimension 1100. Looks like someone connected/disconnected something like flash drive a few hundred times. System works fine though, so I kept it. Can't complain too much as it was $135 :)

I have a Dell "scatch and dent" laptop and I couldn't find any scratches or dents on the thing.

they are there. Just super small. Probably a hairline scratch thats hard to see unless in the right light.

Maybe. Maybe not. I've had systems where you couldn't see the scratch unless you were under a bright light and looking very closely. But I've also had systems where I couldn't find any scratches.

However, on the systems where I couldn't find a scratch, it did appear that the System Tag sticker was put on a little bit crooked. I wonder if that's why it was classified as S&D?
